Canada's most awarded fully electric vehicle lineup*

Electric motors deliver lightning-quick acceleration and impressive performance while extending your driving experience through regenerative braking. Zero emissions, zero compromises.

Plug-in Hybrid

The highest levels of hybrid technology

Plug-in hybrids go further than you'd think possible -- a larger battery than a traditional hybrid plugs in for charging and travels a meaningful distance on pure electric power. When electric range is depleted, the gas engine takes over seamlessly, so you get to your destination on either power source.

Get the most out of using less

In a Hyundai Hybrid, a gas engine and electric motor work separately or together based on driving conditions. You get outstanding fuel efficiency without ever needing to plug in -- the battery recharges through the engine and through regenerative braking as you drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about going electric or hybrid with Hyundai.

What is the difference between a Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)?

Both a hybrid electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid use an electric motor and a gasoline engine to generate movement. Both adapt on their own based on driving conditions, activating the electric motor and/or gas engine as needed, and both use regenerative braking to recover energy during deceleration.

The key difference: the plug-in hybrid has a larger electric motor and greater battery capacity, allowing for a longer range on electric-only power. The plug-in hybrid plugs into an external electric source for charging, while the standard hybrid is fueled only with gasoline and recharges its battery automatically.

What is the difference between a Hybrid and a Battery Electric Vehicle?

A Hybrid vehicle uses both a gasoline engine and an electric motor for propulsion. A Battery Electric Vehicle uses only an electric motor -- no gasoline required. The electric vehicle's high-density battery needs to be periodically charged through an external electrical power source.

Do you charge a hybrid?

No. Hybrid vehicles automatically charge as they move. Through a process called regenerative braking, energy that would otherwise be lost during deceleration is recovered and stored in the battery for later use.

Which powertrain is best for long commutes?

For long commutes, a hybrid offers better efficiency in all driving conditions than a standard gas vehicle. A plug-in hybrid gives you the same benefits plus the ability to travel up to 53 km on pure electric power (TUCSON Plug-in Hybrid) -- well suited to inner-city driving. For longer drives, traditional hybrids like the SONATA Hybrid can travel up to 1,000 km on a single tank.

Which powertrain is best for city commuting?

For shorter city commutes with lots of stop-and-go driving, a fully electric powertrain works best. You'll produce zero emissions and effortlessly get up to speed. Energy from braking is recaptured and used to recharge the battery through regenerative braking -- so stop-and-go driving actually helps extend your range.

What is the warranty on Hyundai electric and hybrid vehicles?

Hyundai electric and hybrid vehicles come with a 5-year / 100,000 km comprehensive warranty and an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty on hybrid and electric components -- including the high-voltage battery.

What incentives are available for Hyundai electric or hybrid vehicles in Canada?

Provincial rebates are available for battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Eligibility criteria vary by province. If your vehicle qualifies, your Hyundai dealer applies the rebate directly at the time of purchase.

Note: traditional hybrids (HEVs) are not classified as zero-emission vehicles and are not eligible for EV rebates in Canada. Conditions apply -- contact our team for the latest details on current incentives.

What is the maintenance cost for Hyundai electric and hybrid vehicles?

Maintenance costs vary by model and service type. Generally, EVs require less routine maintenance than gas vehicles -- no oil changes, fewer moving parts, and less brake wear thanks to regenerative braking. Our service team can provide a specific maintenance estimate for any model you're considering.

*As of December 21, 2023, Hyundai fully electric vehicles have collectively received more awards from January 1, 2022 to December 21, 2023 than any other lineup of fully electric vehicles based on the following Canadian media outlets: Vincentric, AutoTrader, Canadian Black Book, AJAC, AutoGuide, Auto123 and World Car of the Year.

**Actual mileage and range will vary based on driving conditions, driving habits, vehicle condition and other factors. Fueling time will vary based on ambient temperature, hydrogen fueling pressure, current fill level and other factors.
